Manila / April 2011

– Following the successful staging of its first cordless race in Shanghai, China last May 2010, power tools pioneer Bosch announces the local leg of its first Asia-wide championships that include Thailand, Malaysia, China and Korea. The Bosch Philippine Cordless Race engages engineering students to create race karts powered by Bosch cordless lithium-Ion power tools, challenge each other in time trials, and ultimately, the championship race in Beijing later this year. The winning Filipino team will receive P100 thousand.

The Philippine leg of the race will take place at Boomland Kart Track, CCP Complex in Pasay City on May 15, 2011 at 10AM and is expected to draw over a thousand participants, top-billed by contestants from eight of the countries’ premier technical colleges and universities, including Colegio de San Juan De Letran, Calamba; Don Bosco Technical College, Mandaluyong; Mapua Institute of Technology; Rizal Technological Institute; Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP); University of the Philippines (UP), Diliman; University of San Carlos, Cebu; and University of Mindanao, Davao.

The whole day event includes a cheer dance contest for pep squads of the eight participating schools, presentations on Bosch Cordless Power Tools, and performances from dance group the Velasco Brothers and cager-rapper Alex Crisano. The evening program will culminate with an awarding ceremony and a concert featuring Amber, General Luna, and Parokya ni Edgar.

Under the hood: a cordless powertrain

The race will feature specially-crafted karts powered by the current generation Bosch cordless impact drills and drivers. Vehicle design and other modifications are geared towards optimizing lithium-ion tools and pairing proper gear configurations to produce higher speeds. Race teams will battle for a place on the winner’s podium, whilst simultaneously create a competitive proving ground for Bosch lithium-ion technology’s power, performance and durability.

“Innovation and skills transfer is an important part of the Bosch philosophy. The (cordless race) championships will provide engineering students a challenge in creating race karts powered by Bosch tools,” according to William Go, Bosch Country Sales Director for Power Tools. “Bosch strongly believes in building the future through technical and engineering innovation.”

The event also highlights Bosch’s aim to support and cultivate innovative designs and engineering among Filipino students and to provide them with experience, knowledge and skills necessary to sustain economic development in the long-term.

“We are very excited about working with students from universities, technical colleges and vocational schools. We likewise anticipate the opportunity to foster education and inspire the future generation’s creativity,” said Go. The winning team will compete as the Philippine representative to the Asia Pacific regional championship in Beijing this September.

About the Bosch cordless technology

Bosch lithium-ion cordless power tools provide the required power, performance, product life and energy efficiency – making it the global technology leader in this tool segment. Lithium-ion, as it is widely used for cellular phone applications, revolutionized mobile communication as we know it today. Bosch takes this technology even further by fitting its world-renowned power tools with it, resulting in greater work efficiency for professional users.

The company’s premium lithium-Ion battery is capable of delivering four times longer battery life compared to similar technologies in the market. It is also 30 to 40 percent lighter than NiCd batteries but just as powerful as corded tools. The current Bosch cordless line features a patented Electronic Cell Protection (ECP), which reliably protects the battery against overload, overheating and deep discharge.

Bosch Power Tools are distributed in the Philippines by Robert Bosch Inc. and are available in hardware stores, leading malls and DIY shops nationwide. For more information on all the races, the participants, up-to-date coverage, live videos and images of the events please go to:
